NICOLA SANDERS
I came to interior design through a long interest in how people live with buildings. My background is in History of Art and Architecture, followed by a career working for leading interior design magazines – experiences that shaped both my eye and, more importantly, how I listen.
While I value aesthetics deeply, I believe good design begins with understanding daily life. The homes
I work on are rarely showpieces; they are places for family routines, conversation, cooking, reading, music and rest. My role is to help those activities happen more easily and more comfortably.
Clients often come to me at a moment of change – they might be moving house, renovating or adapting spaces for a growing family – when there are many decisions to make and limited time or headspace
to make them. I guide the process from early ideas through to completion, helping clients feel confident in their choices and supported throughout.
My approach combines respect for the character of a building with practical, thoughtful planning. I’m drawn to calm, layered interiors – whether colourful or neutral – that feel settled rather than styled, and that continue to work well long after a project is finished. It’s never just about designing a house; it’s about creating timeless spaces that people will enjoy, year after year.
Above all, I see design as a collaborative process. The aim is not to impose a look, but to create a home that reflects the people living in it and quietly supports everyday life.
